Raising “Cain” In Florida
avatar

Unlike 666; 999 seems an appealing number among conservatives in the Republican party.  That is if the results of a straw poll are valid indicators of the desire of Florida republicans.  The Washington Times has the story reported by Seth McLaughlin:

ORLANDO — Former Godfather Pizza CEO Herman Cain won the Presidency 5 straw poll here Saturday, delivering a blow to Texas Gov. Rick Perry’s frontrunner status and a victory for a candidate who has struggled to transform his grassroots popularity into strong showings in national polls.

“Tonight’s winner is Herman Cain,” Florida Gov. Rick Scott announced. “It shows you something, the road to the White House come through Florida, and it pays to spend time here.”

Cain garnered more votes as a percentage than Perry (15.4%) or Romney (14%.)  In fact, Cain polled over twice (7.6% more) than Perry and Romney combined (29.4%.)  You might say that Cain is “able” when it comes to dusting the britches of the heretofore front running repubs.

Cain has been called a common-sense candidate and in our mind, such as it may be, he certainly seems to possess an appeal for the ordinary conservative.  His 999 plan may be an economic device whose time has arrived, however details during the campaign to this point have been scant.  It would be nice if the plan is evaluated truthfully. In the meantime, here is the part (999 click here) of Mr. Cain’s web site purporting to explain “999.”  You can be sure there are detractors from the right and left and google can help you track them down.

Mr. Cain again vowed to replace the tax code with a 9 percent tax on businesses, personal income and sales. He also said that while the nation faces economic, global and moral crises, the “biggest crisis of all is a severe deficiency of leadership in Washington, D.C., and in the White House.”

Romney did not take part and Bachmann chose not to expend a lot of energy on the Florida process.  Perry used Romney’s non-participation as a chide toward Romney, saying in effect: Florida elects presidents and anyone who misses an appearance in the state does so at their peril.

Oh! Almost forgot.  Folks are saying, “Yes we Cain!”
